Also known as the Mat-Su Borough, the Matanuska-Susitna Census Area belongs to the Anchorage Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area got its name from the two rivers that run through it, the Matanuska and Susitna rivers, which empty their waters in the Cook Inlet. This is where the borough ends as well, toward the south. It is worth mentioning that this area is among the very few agricultural areas that can be found in Alaska.
